Our Story
I created the "Cozy Culture" aesthetic because I couldn't find a design style that represented us. I wanted to prove that you don't have to away your identity to make your home look high-end. True luxury is when your space reflects your soul.
Why Soul Woven Blankets is the First Step - Every movement needs a foundation, and Soul Woven Blankets is the anchor of this new aesthetic.
A blanket is the most intimate item in your home—it’s what you wrap yourself in when you need safety, rest, and warmth. By infusing these blankets with the rhythm of the South, we are giving you the first building block of a soulful home. When you drape a Soul Woven Blanket over your sofa, you aren't just adding a pop of color; you are planting a flag. You are saying, "This home has flavor. This home has history. This home has Soul."
We Didn’t Just Want Comfort - We Wanted Culture
Meet Kim: The Hands & Heart Behind Soul Woven
The Journey from Resume to Room Design - I was born and raised in Memphis, TN (901!), and for over 20 years, I worked as a Corporate Recruiter. My job was to look at hundreds of resumes and find the perfect fit. I didn't realize it then, but I was training my eye. I was learning to spot quality, compatibility, and flow.
When the pandemic hit, I traded resumes for room designs. Like many of us, I needed an outlet. I took interior design courses and started transforming spaces, but I quickly grew frustrated. I would scour the aisles of home stores looking for the perfect accent pieces, but everything looked the same. I saw a sea of beige, but I was looking for soul.
The "Happy Accident" - When I couldn't find the perfect throw blanket, I decided to make one. I bought a bunch of chunky yarn, watched a video, and got to work. Let me be honest with you: My first blanket was a mess.
But something inside me—a quiet resilience—said, "You can do this, Kim." So, I kept going. I practiced every day. And as my hands worked the yarn, I noticed something amazing: my stress melted away. Finger knitting became my peace. It became my prayer closet.
From Hobby to "Fye" - What started as a personal therapy session turned into a business by accident. My son posted a video of my signature RBG Blanket on his TikTok video, and the response was overwhelming. He told me the blanket was "fye," and the internet agreed!
But for me, it’s deeper than viral videos. I remember knitting a blanket while grieving the loss of my dear "sister cousin," Sheila. I cried through the process, pouring my emotions into the loops. When I finished, I realized that these blankets aren't just yarn; they are vessels of love. This business is a gift from the Father Above, and every piece I send out is a part of that blessing.
Defining "Cozy Culture" - Through my design journey, I realized that standard "luxury" often leaves out Black culture. I wanted to see our history, our music, and our vibrancy reflected in our living rooms.
So, I coined the term Cozy Culture.
Cozy Culture is the intersection of Southern hospitality and unapologetic heritage. It is the belief that your home should feel like a warm embrace from your ancestors.
- It is not about blending in.
- It is about heavy textures, bold colors, and pieces that have a pulse.
- It is "seasoning" for your living spaces—adding the flavor that standard decor leaves out.
And that is what our blankets represent!
I am Kim, and I am honored to weave a little bit of that rhythm into your home.
